DOXIE CARE AND FEEDING

Care and Feeding Tips from a Doxie Mom who Researches EVERYTHING!

Yes – EVERYTHING!

Before deciding on a mini dachshund as my first dog, I researched breeds, breeders, training methods, nutrition, vaccinations, flea/tick/heartworm meds, toys, treats . . . you get the picture. I’m an over analyzer, but let my curse be your blessing. Check out my recommendations knowing I’ve personally vetted (no pun intended) everything I recommend. And check back often to see added content with over-researched suggestions.

Before bringing Charlotte home, I tried to be a prepared as possible and thought I was. Of course, not all went to plan, because doxies are . . . doxies. But I feel good about the choices I made for her based on my research, and she is healthy and thriving. I wish the same for your treasured pup.

Priorities Before "Gotcha Day" . . .

If you only have time for a few things before you pick up your pup, prioritize these:

  1. Research the breeder!!! Get recommendations from people who have their puppies, and talk to them, or, ideally, visit.
  2. Read The Forever Dog. It will change the way you think about caring for a dog . . . forever!
  3. Spend time with dachshunds and the people who raise them. Seek out a dachshund lovers or dachshund rescue organization, and talk with the owners. Spend time with the dogs. Have realistic expectations about raising these independent, intelligent, active, fiercely loyal and lovable dogs, and you’ll be rewarded with unconditional affection.
