How to feed your doxie on the road

It’s vacation season, and many will enjoy a road trip with their pup. Wondering how to keep your dog healthy while traveling? There is an alternative to kibble that requires no refrigeration – Dr. Harvey’s dehydrated, just-add-water foods. For complete meal options, check out the Beef & Garden Veggies or Chicken & Garden Veggies recipes, available with whole grains or grain-free.

Because the food is dehydrated, it’s easy to pack, lightweight, and you can make as little or as much as you need without having to worry about storing leftovers. Just add two parts hot water to one part dehydrated mix, wait 10-20 minutes while stirring occasionally, and your doxie will have a warm, nutritious meal.

If you choose this option while at home, you can refrigerate the leftovers. I make enough for a week and divide it into two containers. One goes in the refrigerator, and the other goes into the freezer for later in the week.

If you prefer to add your own protein, Dr. Harvey’s has other recipes that you can mix with ground beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, or any other protein. And they offer small sample sizes so you can see which flavors your dog likes best before investing in a large bag.

Of course, remember to always have fresh water and a bowl during any long road trip with your doxie. Enjoy the ride!
